Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: along Pounding Mill Brook and U.S. Highway 19, south of the Norfolk and Western RR underpass. Named from Cliffield store and station, about 8 mi southwest of Tazewell, Tazewell Co., southwestern VA (Cooper and Prouty, 1943).

Appalachian basin
