Type section (=Hayton Formation type section): exposures in Valders Stone and Marble quarry, at Valders, south of County Trunk Highway JJ, about 1 mi (1.6 km) northeast of juntion of WI Highway 148 and U.S. Highway 151, in NW/4 NE/4 and NE/4 NW/4 sec. 32, T. 19 N., R. 22 E., [approx. Lat. 44 deg. 04 min. 39 sec. N., Long. 87 deg. 53 min. 26 sec. W.], Valders 7.5-min quadrangle, Manitowoc Co., eastern WI (Syverson and others, 2011).
Named from Cato Falls on Manitowoc River, Cato Twp., [in NE/4 NW/4 sec. 29, T. 19 N., R. 22 E., Lat. 44 deg. 05 min. 37 sec. N., Long. 87 deg. 53 min. 21 sec. W.], Valders 7.5-min quadrangle, central Manitowoc Co., eastern WI; name credited to Betty J. Socha (Syverson and others, 2011).
Reference section (=High Cliff Member type section): exposure in quarry, [about 0.25 mi west of Sherwood and 1.5+/- mi east of Lake Winnebago], in SW/4 SE/4 sec. 30, T. 20 N., R. 19 E., [approx. Lat. 44 deg. 10 min. 14 sec. N., Long. 88 deg. 16 min. 14 sec. W.], Sherwood 7.5-min quadrangle, Calumet Co., eastern WI (Syverson and others, 2011).
