Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type sections: near intersection of Dry Fork and Catheys Creek, 1 mi west of Isom, Maury Co., and on spur overlooking Catheys Creek, 0.25 mi southeast of Taylorsville and 2 mi east of Isom (Wilson, 1949).
Named from Catheys Creek, Lewis and Maury Cos., TN (Hayes and Ulrich, 1903).
