Late Cretaceous (Turonian to Santonian)*
Type locality: exposures along Quebrada Cambalache extending 700 m upstream from the point where the stream leaves Gurabo quadrangle (Puerto Rico Meter Grid System 211,420 E.; 59,120 N. to 211,390 E.; 58,540 N.). Named from exposures in Barrio Canovanas, [northeast Gurabo quadrangle], northeastern Puerto Rico (Seiders, 1971).
