Type section: along State Highway 91, 0.5 mi south of intersection with County Road 604, Tazewell Co., southwestern VA. Named from Bowen Cove at northwest base of Short Mountain and along County Road 609, west of Maiden Spring (Cooper and Prouty, 1943).
