Type locality: abandoned quarry, north side of VA Highway 615, 1.7 km (1.1 mi) south of intersection with VA Highway 617, Lat. 38 deg. 35 min. 30 sec. N., Long. 78 deg. 06 min. 08 sec. W., Castleton quadrangle, Rappahannock Co., central VA. Named from Blackwater Creek (Tollo, 1994).
