Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type area: north of town of Big Springs, Douglas Co., KS. Named from Big Springs (Condra, 1927, 1937).
Type locality: near Big Springs in roadcut near center of south line of sec. 36, T. 11 S., R. 17 E., about 4.5 mi west of Lecompton (Moore, 1936, p. 175; Condra, 1949; Hershey and others, 1960; see also MO Geol. Survey lexicon, Thompson, 2001).
