/Big Cusp algal dolomite member (informal) of Kona Dolomite of Chocolay Group of Marquette Range Supergroup (MI-local)
Recognized locally in Marquette Range, Northern Peninsula.

[Conflicts with nomenclature guidelines (CSN, 1933; ACSN, 1961, 1970; NACSN, 1983, 2005, 2021) stating names are derived from geographic features. Considered informal. The rank or lithologic term should not be capitalized.]

Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality: exposures at Lake Superior along State Highway 41, 5 km south of Marquette, eastern Marquette Range, Northern Peninsula, northwestern MI (Taylor, 1972, Michigan Tech PhD dissert.; Wohlabaugh and Mancuso, 1990).
[Big Cusp is not a geographic feature; origin of name is from the large domal stromatolites in the upper carbonate.]
