Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from Beechwood Station, Jefferson Co., KY. Exposed in stream a few rods [1 rod = 16.5 ft] north of the Shelbyville Turnpike, 0.5 mi south of Beechwood Station on the Louisville and Nashville RR, and 1.5 mi east of St. Mathews, [Prospect 15-min quadrangle], Jefferson Co., KY (Butts, 1915).
