Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from settlement of Bailey's Landing on Mississippi River, Perry Co., eastern MO, a short distance above present Red Rock Landing (US geologic names lexicons, USGS Bull. 896, 1200).
Neotype area: outcrops in river bluffs at and north of Red Rock Landing, [Salem Twp., in T. 35 N., R. 12 E., Altenburg and Campbell Hill 15-min quadrangles], Perry Co., MO, where beds crop out in a fault block tilted toward river and exposed southeastward along fault zone in a narrow discontinous band almost to Brazeau Creek, in NW/4 sec. 11, T. 34 N., R. 13 E., [Brazeau Twp., Altenburg 15-min quadrangle, Perry Co., MO] (Croneis, 1944).
