Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section (subsurface): at Avon Park Bombing Range, in sec. 31, T. 32 S., R. 30 E., Polk Co., east-central FL. Samples from well are indexed at No. W-668 in files of Florida Geological Survey (Applin and Applin, 1944).
Reference section (subsurface): depth-interval 221 to 1,190 ft, Coastal Petroleum Company Ragland No. 1 well, in sec. 16, T. 15 S., R. 13 E., Levy Co., west-central FL. Well cuttings curated at the Florida Geol. Survey, Tallahassee, FL; stored as well no. 66 (Miller, 1986).
Surface outcrops in Citrus and Levy Cos., west-central FL (Vernon, 1951).
