Type section: Mesa de Cuba, near Rio Puerco located in NW/4 NE/4 NE/4 sec. 9, T. 20 and 21 N., R. 2 W., Mesa Portales 7.5-min quadrangle, Sandoval Co., northwestern NM. Named from Arroyo Chijuillita, an intermittent tributary of the Rio Puerco just west of Mesa de Cuba (Williamson and Lucas, 1992).
