Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from exposures in Armstrong Canyon, west of town of Condon, central northern OR (see Reidel and others, 1989).
Reference locality: Armstrong Canyon, above confluence with Thirtymile Creek, in south-central part of sec. 3, T. 5 S., R. 19 E., Shoestring Ridge 7.5-min quadrangle, [Gilliam Co.], central northern OR (Reidel and others, 1989).
