Summary:

Named for stage station of Youghall, east of Hell's Canyon. Type locality designated as the exposures on west side of Hell's Canyon in sec 31, T6N, R102W, and along east side of head of Hell's Canyon in W1/2 sec 7, T5N, R102W, Moffat Co, CO in the Greater Green River basin. Is exposed around margins of Uinta Mountains. Overlies Hells Canyon formation on south and southeast margin, Belden formation on north margin. Underlies Weber sandstone. Is approximately 650 ft thick at type where it is composed of buff to red-brown, cross-bedded to massive sandstone interbedded with blue-gray fossiliferous limestone. Fusulinids abundant. Some of the limestones are cherty; some are dolomitic. Two graphic diagrams showing lithology and location of fossils. Is 500 ft thick at Split Mountain, 600 ft thick at White Rock Canyon, 530 ft thick at Sheep Mountain. Pennsylvanian age. Contains abundant fossils--brachiopods, corals, algae, crinoids, fusulinids. Measured sections.
