Ledyard Member of Ludlowville Formation of Hamilton Group subdivided into newly named /Winspear and overlying /Elma submembers. The Winspear (formerly designated Alden Member by McCollum, 1980, PhD dissertation) encompasses the lower 15 m of the Ledyard and is a uniform dark gray shale with numerous limy concretionary layers. Includes the distinctive Alden pyrite beds 8 m above its base and the Athol Springs limestone bed, which defines its top. Overlies the Centerfield Limestone Member. Age is Middle Devonian.
