Summary:

Named as basal member of Swede Hollow Formation (named) of Cherokee Group of Des Moines Supergroup. Named for Whitebreast Creek. Type section is in sec 3, T72N, R22W, Lucas Co, IA on the Iowa shelf. This coal is 1.4 ft thick. Is very persistent, uniform in thickness. Present over a 14 county area on the Iowa shelf where it is consistently 1 to 1.5 ft thick. Cross section. Nomenclature chart. Overlies the newly named Floris Formation of Cherokee Group. Underlies Oakley Shale Member (named of Cherokee Group). Of Desmoinesian, Pennsylvanian age.
