Used as Whatley Mill Gneiss of Wacoochee Complex. Type locality given as an abandoned quarry at Whatley Mill in SE1/4 sec 15, T18N, R26E, Lee Co., east-central AL. Described as medium- to coarse-grained biotite-muscovite gneiss with large (2-in.) potassium-feldspar augen, and with some local microcline and orthoclase augen. Well exposed along tributary to Chewacla Creek in SW1/4 sec 18, T18N, R25E.

Authors follow terminology of Bentley and Neathery (1970) and Raymond and others (1988). Whatley Mill is included in the Wacoochee Complex within the Pine Mountain belt.
