Summary:

Wassamassaw Swamp Member of Wicomico Formation. Upper Wicomico divided into five members: Toney Bay, Dean Swamp, Sandridge, Wassamassaw Swamp, and Four Hole. The Wassamassaw Swamp contains large amounts of fine sand and kaolinitic montmorillonite similar to that occurring in Sandridge Member. Underlies in part and grades southeastward from the Sandridge. Represents a shallow shelf marine environment. Deposited with and gradational from Toney Bay Member. Age is early Pleistocene.
Named from Wassamassaw Swamp, Summerville NW quadrangle, southeastern SC.
