Summary:

Warrenton agglomerate member named as part of Catoctin series. Named for Warrenton, Warrenton quad, Fauquier and Culpeper Cos., northeastern VA. Occurs at or near base of Catoctin series. Widespread in Warrenton area. Consists of boulders, cobbles, and pebbles of greenstone. Largest boulders are several feet in diameter. In places, composed almost entirely of greenstone fragments; in other places, greenstone fragments sparingly scattered through a fine matrix. Fragmental character is best criterion for identification of rock in the field. Most fragments are of epidosite. Thickness ranges from very thin in southwestern corner of Warrenton quad to 1500 to 2000 ft at Shiloh School and in Piney Mountain. Overlies Fauquier formation (new). Age is Precambrian.
