Summary:

Named as a named member (1 of 4 named members) of McAlester shale. Name McAlester is one of five formations that replace use of Winslow formation in report area. [Preferred status of Winslow as a result of this study not clearly stated.] Named from exposure 1 mi north of Warner, Muskogee Co, OK on the Chautauqua platform. No type locality designated. Area of this report is in Muskogee Co. Consists of massive, very irregularly bedded sandstone of medium texture; is friable, brown, cross-bedded, very ferruginous, with numerous reticulate networks of limonitic ribbons. Contains clay blebs; white mica common; plant fossils present. Is 40 ft thick. Overlies McCurtain shale member (new) of McAlester shale. Separated from overlying Lequire sandstone member (new) of McAlester by 40 ft of usually concealed shale of McAlester. Geologic map. Stratigraphic table. Columnar section.
