Summary:

The Vista Alegre Formation, here named, consists of volcanic sandstone and subordinate siltstone and tuff and lava beds. Lower part of unit is not present in the Florida quadrangle, but is exposed in adjacent Jayuya quadrangle, where it conformably overlies the Robles Formation. Conformably underlies the Mameyes Formation with the contact at the lowest lava of the Mameyes. Thickness is at least 500 m. Age is Early(?) to Late Cretaceous.

Summary:

The Vista Alegre Formation occurs in central Puerto Rico and consists of graded volcanic sandstone, crystal and lithic tuff, siltstone, volcanic breccia, pillowed andesitic and basaltic lava, and basaltic tuff. Maximum estimated thickness is 1700 meters. The Vista Alegre is of Late(?) Cretaceous age.
