Summary:

Pg. 353. Vinson chalk. Name applied to formation (2nd of 8) in type Austin group in vicinity of Austin, Williamson County, Texas (Ouachita tectonic belt province). Name credited to Durham (1957, unpub. thesis). According to Durham, the type Austin sequence (in vicinity of Austin) includes (ascending) Atco chalk, Bruceville chalk-marl, Vinson chalk, Jonah limestone, Dessau chalk, Burditt chalk marl, and Big House chalk. Vinson overlies Atco chalk, intertongues with Bruceville chalk-marl to the north, and underlies Jonah limestone in the type Austin sequence. Age is Late Cretaceous (Austinian).
Type locality not designated. Derivation of name not stated. Occurs in type section of Austin Group, at Austin, Williamson Co., TX.
