Summary:

Named as upper of two members of Lees Summit Formation (new) of Pleasanton Group for Unity Farms located in sec 25, T48N, R32W, Jackson Co, MO. Type section designated at shale quarry of Acme Brick and Tile Company's plant at Vale in NE1/4 NW1/4 sec 27, T48N, R32W, Forest City basin. Unit occurs in western MO, southern IA and eastern KS, Forest City basin and Iowa shelf. Consists of medium gray, sandy, silty and micaceous, thinly laminated shale; breaks with conchoidal fracture; weathers light gray and disintegrates to soft, thin flakes; thin beds of clay-ironstone concretions are present, mostly in lower part; locally fossiliferous. Thickness ranges from a few feet to 50 ft. Overlies Exline Limestone Member of Lees Summit Formation (new); underlies Weldon River Sandstone River Member (new) of Shale Hill Formation (new) of Pleasanton. Unit is important resource brick and tile material. Correlation chart. Measured sections. Fossil list. Late Pennsylvanian (early Missourian) age.
