Summary:

Part of the Churchill province termed the Trans-Hudson orogen by Hoffman (1981). Is bounded on the west by Wyoming craton (Archean, more than 2.5 Ga), on the south by the Central Plains orogen (Early Proterozoic, about 1.65 Ga), and on the east by the Superior craton (Archean, more than 2.5 Ga). Occupies parts in MT, SD, ND, WY, CO, and NE, all in the Midcontinent region. Areal limits shown on tectonic map of Precambrian basement (fig. 3). Age shown to be about 1.85 Ga (Early Proterozoic), same as that for Penokean orogen.
