Towanda limestone member of Doyle formation of Chase group. Persists widely as a very irregular unit. We have observed its outcrop at many places [mentioned] from type locality northward in Kansas and at several places in Nebraska [mentioned]. In places (as northeast of Barnes, Kansas) it consists of 3 rather massive limestones and interbedded shale, but at most places between type locality and Nebraska it is represented by 5 to 10 feet or more or drab-colored slabby limestones that weather very irregularly and yellowish brown. Overlies Holmesville shale (basal member of Doyle) and underlies Gage shale (top member of Doyle). Age is Permian (Big Blue).
