Two unnamed units of formation rank are named in central TX in Ouachita tectonic belt province--Bergstrom and Sprinkle Formations. Sprinkle Formation (formerly called "Lower Taylor Marl") is named as basal unit of Taylor. If Taylor is used as a group, both of these formations belong in the Taylor Group. If one uses Hill's (1901) division system of classification, the "Upper Taylor Marl" belongs to Taylor Division but the "Lower Taylor Marl" belongs to Austin Division, since it is a clay lithosome interfingering with the type Austin Chalk and is genetically part of Austin. The claystones of Sprinkle and Bergstrom are separated by Pecan Gap Formation, a chalk (or marly limestone). Is of Late Cretaceous age.
