Summary:

Pg. 2132. Sunflower Formation. A fossiliferous formation that unconformably overlies Lower Cambrian(?) quartzite and undatable calcareous and argillaceous formations. Age is Late Pennsylvanian and Early Permian(?). Present in northern Nevada.

Summary:

Pg. 5 (table 1), 7-12, pI. 1. Sunflower Formation. Formal proposal of name. Divided into three members: lower conglomerate, 100 to 1,910 feet; middle limestone, 296+ to 530 feet; and upper sandstone, 1,460 to 2,000 feet. Overlies Tennessee Mountain Formation (new). Underlies Hammond Canyon Formation (new). Age is Permian.
Named for Sunflower Reservoir which lies at southern extremity of Sunflower Flat, a large open basin in southwestern corner of Rowland quadrangle, Elko Co., northern NV. Well exposed in line of hills extending eastward from Jenkins Peaks, in the southeastern corner of Mountain City quadrangle, along southern border of Rowland quadrangle. Beds dip steeply and are commonly overturned.
