Summary:

Extended into Lucas Co, IA on the Iowa shelf as a formally named member. The upper member of the Morgan School Shale of the Marmaton Group of the Des Moines Supergroup. Summit coal, the informal term, was previously included in the Little Osage Shale. Little Osage in this report is restricted to the rocks above the Summit. Overlies unnamed green shale of the Morgan School. Underlies the Little Osage Member, newly assigned to the Stephens Forest Formation (new) of the Marmaton. Is a weathered coal 0.1 ft thick at type "exposure" of Morgan School Shale. Graphic section. Nomenclature chart. Of Pennsylvanian, Desmoinesian age.
