Measured type section designated along Stony Creek, 6.4 km northeast of town of Stonyford, Lodoga quad, Glenn Co, CA. Rocks previously assigned to Knoxville and Paskenta beds. Occurs in continuous belt for about 72 km along margin of Sacramento Valley. Consists of dark greenish-gray to black, thinly bedded to laminated siltstone and mudstone with minor thin to thick beds and lenses of fine- to coarse-grained sandstone and conglomerate. Is about 4,100 m thick. Is predominantly andesitic detritus deposited in deep-marine trough. Is basal unit of Great Valley sequence. Informal basaltic sandstone member shown in lower one-half of stratigraphic section. Is in fault contact with serpentinite basement rocks; conformably underlies Lodoga Formation or is locally truncated by its basal Leesville Sandstone Member. Is Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous age.
