Summary:

Named as a formation in Slatestone group (new). Named for Stephens siding, Petros quad, Morgan Co., eastern TN. Well exposed in vicinity of bridge over Middle Fork. Here, consists of laminated silty sandstone with alternating dark- and light-colored fine sand and silt. Has both massive and thin-bedded phases. Thickness is 40 ft. Separated from overlying Crooked Fork group (new) by shale interval 30 to 140 ft thick; separated from overlying Petros sandstone by shale interval 40 to 240 ft thick that contains Coal Creek coal. Age is Pennsylvanian (Pottsville series). Report includes geologic maps, cross sections, stratigraphic sections, and correlation chart.
