Summary:

Named as lower formation (of 2) of Skolai Group (new) for Station Creek, eastward-flowing tributary of Frederika Creek. Type area designated as area that extends 3.5 mi west from point about 1 mi south of Station Creek, southern Wrangell Mountains, northeastern part of McCarthy C-4 quad, southern AK. Well exposed in southeastern part and near eastern border of McCarthy B-4 quad. Divided into: lower volcanic flow member (4000 ft thick at type) and upper volcaniclastic member (up to 2500 ft thick). Lava flows of lower member are black or dark greenish gray. Upper member contains graywacke, volcanic sandstone and volcanilutite with distinctive red beds of coarse breccia. Conformably underlies Hasen Creek Formation (new) of Skolai Group. Base is not exposed. Columnar section shows intruded by gabbro sills. Age is Permian(?) based on stratigraphic relation to Hasen Creek Formation of Early Permian age.
