Named from exposures at head of Spruce Creek, headwaters of Kugruk River, Type locality designated as these exposures at head of Spruce Creek (T1N R19W) Bendeleben quad, Seward Peninsula, AK. Also underlies isolated hills along east front of Darby Mountains in southeastern part of Bendeleben quad. Is thick cobble conglomerate that mostly consists of clasts of limestone and dolomite with subordinate clasts of volcanic rocks, chloritic schists and York Slate. Is at least 200 ft thick. Overlies metavolcanic rocks of Jurassic age and carbonate rocks of Paleozoic age. Underlies thrust of Paleozoic rocks. May be assigned to Paleozoic age because of predominance of limestone but also may be probable Cretaceous age.
