Summary:

Name Smelser Pass is proposed for upper member (of 3) of Augusta Mountain Formation of Star Peak Group. Consists of dark-gray, mottled limestone capped by mafic volcanic rocks. Is medium- to thick-bedded, bioturbated, blocky weathering, cliff-forming, intertidal to subtidal deposits. Thickness ranges from 180 to 400 m. Conformably overlies the Panther Canyon Member of Augusta Mountain Formation of Star Peak Group; unconformably underlies Cane Spring Formation of Star Peak Group. Age is Middle and Late Triassic (Ladinian and Karnian).
Type section: near Smelser Pass, north end of China Mountain, in T. 32 N., R. 40 E., Pershing Co., NV.
