Name Slaughterhouse Gneiss is proposed for three discrete masses that crop out within the Baltimore Gneiss. The new unit is a uniform, well foliated to massive granitic gneiss, superficially resembling the Gunpowder Gneiss (Gunpowder Granite of Hopson, 1964) but differing in form, the Gunpowder occurring as an intrusive sill. The Slaughterhouse is pink- to orange-weathering with microcline, quartz, and plagioclase the predominant minerals. Age is late Precambrian, probably pre-Glenarm.
