Summary:

Named as upper member of Jelm Formation of Chugwater Group (rank raised) for Sips Creek, Carbon Co, WY in Greater Green River basin. Type section designated in NE1/4 sec 22, center of N1/2 N1/2 sec 23, SW1/4 SW1/4 sec 13, NW1/4 NW1/4 sec 24, T25N, R84W, near Bennett Mountains. Is 315 ft thick at type. In eastern part of Carbon Co contact with underlying Red Draw Member (new) of Jelm is disconformable and marked by a conglomerate. In western part in central Fremont Co the Red Draw and Sips Creek cannot be differentiated. Consists of white, massive, cross-bedded, cliff-forming sandstone in lower part and reddish-brown slope-forming siltstone in upper part. Beds of siltstone pebbles cemented with calcite form ledges in uppermost 10-20 ft. Underlies Popo Agie Formation (rank raised) of Chugwater. Of Triassic age. Cross sections. Columnar sections.
