Summary:

Named as upper unranked unit of Cave Creek formation (new) of Salt Fork division (new) of the Cimarron series (new); named after the township through which Cave Creek flows. No type locality designated although one locality was measured on Cave creek at Comanche cave, Comanche Co, KS, Anadarko basin. At that locality thickness given as up to 10 ft. Is a gypsum which resembles Medicine Lodge gypsum (new)-unranked. Overlies Jenkins clay (new)--unranked--of Cave Creek formation of Salt Fork division of the Cimarron series; underlies Dog Creek shales (new) of Kiger division (new) of the Cimarron series. Of Permian age.

Summary:

Is the uppermost named member (of five members) of Blaine division (new). Overlies the newly named Altona dolomite member of Blaine. Underlies Dog Creek shale of the Woodward division or group (new). Inferred to occur in Anadarko basin. Its lithologic character and areal extent are almost identical to the Medicine Lodge member which is reassigned from the Cave Creek formation to the Blaine. Shimer is not as thick as Medicine Lodge. Thickness not stated. Permian age.
