Named as bed in Silverado formation (new). Type locality designated as Serrano clay pits about 0.5 mi southeast of divide between Santiago Creek and Aliso Creek, northwestern Santa Ana Mountains, Orange Co, CA. Occurs 275 ft above Claymont clay bed (new) in Silverado formation. Consists of white clay with abundant angular quartz grains and is, in fact, generally a quartzose sandstone with light-gray clay matrix. Is not more than one and one-third ft thick. Is correlated with 2-ft clay of similar character 245 ft above Claymont clay bed on first ridge southeast of Baker Canyon. Is Paleocene age based on age of Silverado formation.
