Summary:

First used as a formation (fifth of eight) of type Austin group in vicinity of Austin, TX in Ouachita tectonic belt province. Attributed to Durham (1957, unpublished). No type locality designated; derivation of name not given. According to Durham, unconformably overlies Jonah limestone and underlies Dessau chalk in the type Austin sequence. Age is Austinian (Late Cretaceous).
