Summary:
Named the Schuylkill member of the Pottsville formation in eastern PA. Consists of several beds of fine to coarse pebble conglomerate and quartzose sandstone intercalated with thinner beds of shale and coal. Thickness is about 300 feet at type section. Conformably overlies the Tumbling Run member of the Pottsville with the contact sharp in the Anthracite region; studies in southern and western middle anthracite fields indicate that the Schuylkill intertongues with the Tumbling Run. Underlies the Sharp Mountain member of the Pottsville. The Schuylkill is of Early Pennsylvanian age.
