Name applied to predominantly carbonate rocks that overlie the newly named Manitoba group and underlie the newly named Qu'appelle group. No type locality designated. Probably named for the province of Saskatchewan. Extends from SA into MB in CN and south into northern MT, ND, and northwest SD in the US in the Williston basin. Is more than 1,000 ft thick; the thickest area is in south-central SA. Divided into a lower unnamed part that is predominantly limestone and dolomite with minor shale 800+ ft thick and the Nisku formation (raised to formation rank), a yellow-gray fossiliferous reefoid porous limestone and dolostone 200+ ft thick. The upper Nisku includes anhydrite beds. Where the Nisku is anhydritic, the upper contact of the group and of the Nisku is difficult to locate. Devonian, probably Late Devonian, age. Cross sections; isopach map; correlation chart; well-log descriptions.
