Summary:

Named as the lower division of the Cimarron series (new) for the drainage basin of the Salt Fork river, Comanche Co, KS in the Anadarko basin and Barber Co, KS in the Sedgwick basin. No type locality designated. Divided into five newly named formations, listed in ascending order: Harper sandstones, Salt Plain measures, Cedar Hills sandstones, Flowerpot [Flower-pot] shales, and Cave Creek gypsums. Overlies Wellington shales (new) of Sumner division (new) of Big Blue series. Underlies Dog Creek shales (new) of Kiger division (new) of Cimarron series. Division has a maximum thickness of about 1,000 ft. Lithologies of formations include gypsum, clay, sandstone, and salt. Formations occur in the Anadarko and Sedgwick basins. Of Permian age.
