Summary:

[Hager, 1921, Oil possibilities of Holbrook area, northeastern Arizona, private publication]. Salt Creek member of Moencopie [Moenkopi] formation. Basal member of Moencopie formation. Consists of 3 to 4 feet of red shale (below) and 12 feet of massive cream to light-brown sandstone (above), the latter locally stained pink to red and even dark red in places, but never for any great distance. A good place to study this member is at mouth of Salt Creek, mouth of Clear Creek, and at southeast corner of Winslow (where it trends in northeast-southwest direction), and also just south of Holbrook, [Navajo County, northeastern Arizona]. Overlies Kaibab limestone, where that formation is present. Age is Early Triassic.
