Summary:

Named after Salmontrout River. Outcrops occur on both banks of Porcupine River immediately above Salmontrout River, east-central AK. Is massive light-gray to blue limestone weathering buff and considerably broken by joints. Is about 325 ft thick. Apparently unconformably overlies graptolite shales of Silurian age. Underlies brownish shales of Late Devonian age. Fossils (listed from collection site at Old Rampart House) are considered to represent Middle Devonian horizon.

Summary:

Age is Early or Middle Devonian based on corals considered to be late Early Devonian (Emsian) or early Middle Devonian (Eifelian) age and associated shelly faunas, particularly tentaculitids, ostracodes, trilobites, and conodonts (Churkin and Brabb, 1968). [Identifications of fossils from report by Churkin and Brabb (1968) were revised.]
