Muessig, S., 1951, Eocene volcanism in central Utah: Science, v. 114, no. 2957, p. 234.
Named as a member of Golden's Ranch formation. Source of name not stated. No type locality designated. Lies 820 ft above base of Golden's Ranch formation (first published use) presumably at southern tip of Long Ridge, about 7 mi southwest of Levan, Juab Co, UT in the Great Basin province. Is a relatively pure limestone with abundant plant remains. Thickness, areal extent, relationship to other units not stated. [Definition and description inadequate.] Age determined on basis of plant fossils to be late middle Eocene or early late Eocene.

Is the upper member of the Goldens Ranch Formation, unconformably above the Halls Canyon Conglomerate Member (new) and unconformably beneath the Fernow Quartz Latite. Leaf, twig, and branch impressions found in quad. Several fresh-water gastropods identified that were probably from shallow, freshwater pond or small lake deposits. Is 0 to 80 ft thick in Nephi quad, Juab Co, UT, Great Basin province. Is a vuggy, medium- to coarse-crystalline, grayish-yellow to yellow gray limestone that forms ledgy slopes. Is no younger than 32.07 m.y., the age of the Fernow and no older than 33.2 m.y., the age of the Chicken Creek Tuff Member of the Goldens Ranch Formation. Assigned to the Oligocene. Correlation chart.

As a member of Goldens Ranch Formation, forms the upper part of the lower unit of chiefly water-laid sediments. Forms a lens. Lacks lateral extent. Doubtful that it extends east across the Juab-Sevier Valley area. Is used west of these valleys in the Great Basin province. Overlies stream-deposited sediments (assigned to Hall Canyon Conglomerate Member by Meibos, 1983) of the lower unit. Is overlain by the informal upper unit of the Goldens Ranch. These authors include in the upper unit rocks that were assigned by Meibos to the Fernow and Packard Quartz Latites, Copperopolis Latite, and Cazier Canyon Agglomerate. This paper modifies the upper contact of the Goldens Ranch from the top of the Sage Valley to the top of the rocks equal to the Cazier Canyon. Correlation chart. Age of late Eocene to middle Oligocene. Morris believes middle Eocene plants (Muessig, 1951) came from limestone float from Flagstaff Limestone and not from Sage Valley.
