The Rio Orocovis Formation of Weaver (1964) and Lidiak (1965 is here adopted for USGS usage. Consists of massive, dense andesitic pillow lava, basaltic pillow lava, and subordinate clastic rocks and a lens of reef limestone in the Ciales quadrangle, where it is divided into 4 intertonguing members the basal Magueyes Member, unnamed basaltic tuff, Perchas Lava Member, and Avispa Lava Member. Base is concealed; underlies the Manicaboa Formation. Includes rocks previously assigned to the upper part of the Robles Formation. Age is Turonian(?) to late Santonian(?) or early Campanian.

Rio Orocovis Formation redefined Group and the Magueyes, Perchas Lava, and Avispa Lava Members redefined Formations. Los Negros Member of Lidiak (1965), mapped as basalt tuff member by Berryhill (1965), adopted and raised to Formation.

Strata previously included in formation L and the Cariblanco Formation in the Barranquitas quadrangle are reassigned to the Rio Orocovis Group.
