Unit is named the Resting Springs formation [for Resting Springs, Inyo Co. CA. Consists of three principal units: the lowest consists of sandy limestone with pebble zones, the middle consists of light-colored water-laid tuffs, and the upper unit of flows of reddish latite and dacite. Total thickness not given. [Unconformably] underlain by the Goodsprings dolomite. Age is Pleistocene(?)(on map) based on stratigraphic relations.

Age of the Resting Springs Formation is revised from Pleistocene(?) to: middle Miocene based on radiometric (K-Ar) ages of 12.5 Ma (biotite) and 11.1 Ma (plagioclase) from an andesite flow, and a [whole rock] age of 14.1 Ma from a tuff bed.
