Summary:

Named Renfro Member of Borden Formation. "* * * is made up dominantly of sparsely cherty unfossiliferous light-greenish-gray, yellow- to orange-weathering aphanitic to finely crystalline argillaceous and dolomitic limestone. The argillaceous limestone is commonly in fairly even to wavy beds separated by partings, seams and thin units of greenish shale." Commonly ranges in thickness from 25 to 50 ft with a maximum of 100 ft. Includes equivalents of Salem and Warsaw Limestones and of Muldraugh Member of Borden Formation. Underlain by Nada, Wildie or Nancy Member of Borden Formation; overlain by St. Louis member of Newman Limestone.

Summary:

Renfro Member of Borden Formation of Weir and others (1966) reassigned as Renfro Member of Slade Formation. "* * * primarily dolostone with interbeds of limestone and lesser amounts of dolomitic siltstone, shale, and sandstone. Dolostone and dolomitic limestone are very finely crystalline, very thick to thin bedded, locally laminated and burrowed. Fresh rock colors are light gray to light olive gray, yellowish gray, and greenish gray * * *. Limestone * * * is light-olive-gray to olive-gray and greenish-gray, very thin to medium-bedded, bioclastic calcarenite and calcilutite. Greenish-gray to dark-greenish-gray shale occurs mainly as partings but locally in beds as much as 1 m thick in the lower part of the member." Fossils sparse in dolostone but locally abundant in limestone beds. Ranges in thickness from about 40 m to less than 1 m. Conformably overlies Borden Formation. Conformably underlies St. Louis Member of Slade Formation except locally where St. Louis is absent. Age is Late Mississippian.
