Summary:

Pg. 81-82. Red Canyon member of Lykins formation. A massive cross-bedded oolitic maroon sandstone, upper part much cross-bedded and in some parts leached of its coloring matter. Possibly of eolian origin. Thickness 240 feet. Is upper member of Lykins formation in counties mentioned (Las Animas, Otero, and Bent Counties, southeastern Colorado). Overlies Chaquaqua member of Lykins formation and unconformably underlies gypsiferous beds regarded as lower member of Morrison formation. Age is Triassic(?).
[Probably named from exposures in eastern end of Red Rock Canyon, Las Animas Co., southeastern CO.]
