Summary:

Named as lowermost member (of 7) of Deer Butte Formation for exposures on northwestern side of Red Butte; type section designated in SE/4 sec.22 T25S R43E, Mahleur Co, OR. [no lithology described in this paper] Unconformably overlies Owyhee Basalt. Underlies Orlano Spring Member (new) (Deer Butte Formation). Deer Butte Formation is Miocene and early Pliocene(?) age.
