Named a member of Schnebly Hill Formation (named) for the Rancho Rojo subdivision on Hwy 179, 8 mi south of Sedona. Type section is on south flank of Wild Horse Mesa, 2,000 ft west of Arizona Hwy 179 along jeep trail that winds up Dry Beaver Creek, sec 30, T16N, R6E, Sedona quad, Yavapai Co, AZ, Basin-and-Range province. Forms distinctive orange cliff. Composed of cross-stratified, very fine grained quartzarenite to subfeldspathic arenite. Very large scale compound cross-stratification present at many outcrops. Broad low-angle trough cross-stratification also abundant. Ranges from 20-40 ft thick Easily mapped. Present from Dry Beaver Creek east to Fossil Creek. North and south extent unknown. Both contacts conformable. Overlies Hermit Formation and underlies Bell Rock Member (named) of Schnebly Hill. Rocks assigned to Rojo Rancho were assigned to Supai Formation in earlier reports.
